My Passions

My family.

“Family is not an important thing. It's everything.” – Michael J. Fox.

Without question, my number one passion in my life is my family. For over two decades now my husband Layne has been my rock, my sounding board, my conscious, my #1 supporter, and my best friend. Together we have raised two amazing teenage sons, Sammy and David, who are both smart, funny, kind, and inspire me everyday to be my best self. There is nothing in the world I enjoy more than hanging out with these three guys.

My hobbies.

“In polite society, we call our obsessions hobbies.” – Stephen King

When I’m not at work or spending time with my family, you are most likely to find me in my craft room, in the yoga studio, or out on the lake.

I do not specialize in one particular craft type, rather I am a craft dabbler, someone who does a little bit of everything. I enjoy everything from making homemade birthday cards to designing personalized t-shirts to sewing elaborate period costumes.

I started practicing yoga to build balance and flexibility. But I quickly discovered that the hardest part of doing yoga isn’t the crazy poses, but rather slowing down and just being present. As someone with ADHD who struggles with anxiety, I have always a hard time turning off my thoughts. Any time things were quiet and my hands weren’t busy, my brain was always replaying some conversation, mentally adding things to my to do list, making a plan, or starting a new project in my mind. Yoga has helped me physically, but the biggest benefit of my practice is how it has helped me become a more relaxed, focused, and present person.

The daughter of a sailor, I spent my childhood living at various Navy ports, so it should really come as no surprise that I love the water. Obviously living in the Midwest I don’t have access to the ocean anymore, but luckily we live a quick 20 minute drive to the largest lake in Indiana. From April through October, if it is sunny and over 65°, we are taking our boat, the Lost Lanai, out for some tubing, fishing, or cruising.
